What to Wear Under an Off-the-Shoulder Top?
Off-the-shoulder tops are undeniably elegant—effortlessly balancing femininity with a hint of boldness. But one question always follows: what’s the best thing to wear underneath? From built-in solutions to discreet layering, this guide explores thoughtful, stylish answers for women who want to feel supported and self-assured.
Do You Have to Wear a Bra with an Off-the-Shoulder Top?

If you find a nice off-shoulder top with a built-in bra, I think it's the best choice because it maintains comfort while maximizing aesthetics. After trying various products, I found this style to have the fewest drawbacks. Its only downside might be insufficient support for women with larger busts and it can't be used with off-the-shoulder tops you already own.
OGL tip: Many of our off-shoulder tops feature a built-in brami, providing light support and smoothing coverage that works beautifully on its own.
What Type of Bra Works Best Under an Off-the-Shoulder Top?

Choosing the right bra is key to both comfort and confidence. Here are some of the most effective options:
Strapless Bras
A timeless choice that stays hidden while offering moderate support. Look for versions with silicone lining or wider bands for added grip.
However, after wearing it once, I found its drawbacks to be equally obvious. One is that the silicone lining is not friendly to people with sensitive skin and can easily cause allergies. The other is that although the wider bands can increase grip, the effect is limited and there is still a feeling that they will fall off at times.
Bandeau Bras
Soft and seamless, bandeaus work well under lightweight off-the-shoulder tops when minimal shaping is needed. However, like Bandeau Bras, it also has the drawback of causing pressure on the chest.
Convertible Bras
These offer versatility—wear them strapless, halter-style, or with a low-back design depending on your top’s neckline and structure. This style should be the most versatile, but after wearing it a few times, I found that some parts were broken, so in my opinion, its lifespan is not very long.
Adhesive Bras
Perfect for low backs or delicate fabrics, they provide invisible support while leaving shoulders and backs bare.
However, this is also the style with the most drawbacks in my experience. It has the largest contact area with the skin, and the pulling motion when removing it can easily cause itching and redness. In addition, most options currently on the market are not very breathable, which often leads to trapped heat and sweating.
Brami-Integrated Tops
Some tops, like ours at OGL, include a built-in brami—combining the comfort of a soft bra with the sleekness of a structured top. No extra layers needed.
Can Flat-Chested Women Wear Off-the-Shoulder Tops?

Off-the-shoulder tops are actually incredibly flattering on smaller busts. The open neckline draws attention to the shoulders and collarbones, creating a graceful silhouette. Wearing our padded off-shoulder top will make your bust appear larger, and overall, your figure will look more defined.
Can You Go Braless in an Off-the-Shoulder Top?
Going braless is absolutely an option, especially when the top is well-structured or double-lined. A high-quality off-shoulder top with interior support—like OGL’s brami-integrated design—makes it easy to skip the bra entirely while still feeling secure and covered.
Do You Need to Wear Anything Under an Off-the-Shoulder Top?
In most cases, it’s best to keep layering minimal to preserve the clean neckline. If added warmth or modesty is needed, a thin, fitted bandeau or strapless camisole works well without distracting from the top’s silhouette. Just be sure that whatever you choose lies flat and remains invisible under the fabric.
What’s the Difference Between a Tube Top and a Bandeau?
Though similar, a tube top typically has more structure, length, and shaping through the torso, often functioning as a standalone top. A bandeau, by contrast, is usually shorter and more minimal, designed primarily as an undergarment or layering piece. Many tube tops now come with built-in bramis, offering more support than the average bandeau.
