Officially A Member Of 1% Of The Planet
Wondering how one percent could makes a difference? To make the world a more sustainable and resilience place.
From day one OGL was born, "Sustainable", "zero-waste", and "plastic-free" are what's in our DNA. We knew that we are going to be a business for good to the community, especially to the environment. We felt it is our responsibility to give back whatever we can to have a positive. Over the year, a lot has happen. With the help of our partners and community, we are able to have numerous impacts on the community. This year, it all started with a simple question: “How can we do better for this planet?”
We approached this question and happily, there’s a growing community that also want to make this planet more sustainable and more suitable for us to live, that believe we can be a force for good in the world, for environmental stewardship, and for community building. Many of these are a member of 1% for the Planet.
Today, we are proud to announce that OGL is a Certified member of 1% For The Planet®. After taking inspiration from 1% For The Planet, we began pursuing our 1% For The Planet membership at the start of the year. After joining this community, we commit to donate 1% of our annual revenue to have a even more positive impact by the planet, and to continuously improve the way OGL exists in the world. Consider it another step on our path to make this planet a more sustainable place.
What is 1% For The Planet
1% for the Planet was started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies. As lovers of the outdoors, they knew they had a responsibility to protect our planet, as do we all, and decided to give 1% of their sales back to the environment. Since then, 1% for the Planet established that connects environmental nonprofits with individuals and businesses who are eager to make an impact on the health of our shared planet, to ensure that business and individual members know that the programming aligns with their mission, it has helped direct hundreds of millions of dollars to environmental nonprofits around the world.
Today, 1% for the Planet is a global movement that inspires businesses and individuals to support environmental solutions. There are more than 4,000 members each contributing 1% of their annual revenue to nonprofits doing important work to protect our planet.
How is 1% different to the others?
You might be surprised to learn that only 3% of philanthropy goes to environmental causes. But 1% for the Planet, an environmental organization unlike any other, is changing the very way we think about philanthropy. They’re encouraging businesses and individuals to give just 1% of their sales or income to an environmental nonprofit.
What's next?
Now, in part with 1% For The Planet's help, we look to the future. As we work on continuously improving the way we do business. This year, we will be working hard in becoming a certified B Corp business. We're working hard to do more proactive give, and will be focus on our "Renascence" project, to reduce waste and provide help to disabilities at the same time. Simultaneously, put more effort in our environmental friendly fabric R&D. On the other hand, constantly look for ways to contribute back to the community in shaping a more sustainable world.
We will not stop pursuing our mission, a business that is "Sustainable", "Zero-waste", "Plastic-free". And we hope that in the years to come, this way of doing business, honoring people and planet in addition to profit, will be the bar we all must meet.
