Water-soluble Packaging - Yes Please!

Did you know that packaging made up 36 % of all plastic production? In the United States, packaging waste makes up close to one-third of all waste that is disposed of in landfills, which is around 34.5 million tons. We’re only talking about the waste that ends up in landfills in the United States, there is a lot of packaging that ends up in places where it is not meant to. Packaging plays an essential role in the shopping experience.

Plastic packaging is extremely wasteful and negatively affects the earth’s ecosystems. The majority of plastic waste is dumped in landfills or disposed of into the environment as a result of poor product design and a lack of restrictions. Only 9% of the billion tons of plastic that have been recycled properly. Every piece of plastic ever produced remains on our planet since plastic isn’t biodegradable. Marine creatures consumed plastic that is either dumped or washed into the oceans, whether it degrades into microplastics or not. Therefore, one of the greatest generators of plastic pollution is plastic packaging.

OGL Water-soluble Packaging

Often, traditional plastic package bags (mostly single-use bags) and their impact on the environment go unnoticed, but the truth is, their carbon footprint is significant. Knowing the environmental drain and social impact of plastic packaging, we have implemented the use of our corn-based plastic-free water-soluble package bag, a sustainable alternative that aims to minimize our carbon footprint on the planet.

Not only our package bags are water-soluble, they are also non-toxic. After dissolving in water, it leaves no microplastics behind. Here’s how to dissolve your OGL water-soluble bag:

  1. Prepare a cup of warm water
  2. Put the bag into the warm water
  3. Stir it and let it sit for a few minutes
  4. Once it’s dissolved, you can flush the water or pour it down the drain

As a sustainable clothing brand, our day-to-day operation align closely with Sustainable Development Goals by United Nations. Adopting the SDG framework helps OGL develop and grow sustainably. Our focus on this project is on 2 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals: SDGs 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production and SDGs 14 – Life Below Water.

Our plastic-free water-soluble package bags are not only to minimize our impacts on the environment and the marine system, but also we are hard at work to demonstrate our sustainable practices to inspire others to do better for the planet. We believe business has the moral responsibility to address social issues and provide a solution to the problem.

At OGL, we want to work with our community to reduce our carbon footprint, there is anything we can ever do better, please do not hesitate to let us know by contacting us via service@oglmove.com
